About Maya Candler

Maya is an emerging multimedia artist with roots and practice on the Indigenous lands of Treaty 6, amiskwacîwâskahikan also known as Edmonton. Maya graduated the University of Alberta’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program in 2018 and continues to foster a strong practice based in textiles, sculpture and other mixed media. Maya’s work explores the realms of her experience with mental illness, sexuality, identity, futurism, health and culture through sewn storytelling. With the support of The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Edmonton Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts, Maya has continued to create and show work within western Canada working collaboratively with multidisciplinary festivals and studios.
